I'm Thankful for Fudge

Another great Thanksgiving! The highlight of the day was the "fudge-off" competition between Amy and Dave. They've been talking smack for, I believe, over a year and it finally came to a head on Thanksgiving day. The requirements were to make a plain fudge and a "fancy" fudge. Dave had a friend in town so he didn't start the fudge making until 11:00 Wednesday evening. This made me nervous as the last time he made fudge it was about six or seven years ago and it was more of a sauce than a fudge. He was slaving over the stove until 2:00 am, perfecting his technique. We decided to taste test the plain fudge after our appetizer. We rated on taste, texture and appearance with a five point scale in each category. The person with the most amount of points after both rounds would be deemed fudge queen/king. Both were very yummy and they ended up neck in neck according to my score however Rob didn't agree with me and had a five point spread between the two. I won't come out and say who lost but let's just say I think Rob slept on the couch that night.

Round two was after dinner. One was a mint fudge and one was a turtle fudge (caramel, peanut butter and pecans). These were tied in my opinion. Where one lacked in texture, it was made up for in taste. Where one excelled in appearance, it lost in graininess. Overall, Dave was the winner (his fancy one was the turtle fudge)! Next up, some sort of challenge between me and Rob. I better start practicing now.
